I’m certain there are many stressful things to worry about when organizing an event, but hiring your production company shouldn’t have to be one of them. Here are some suggestions to think about when choosing your provider.
Do they Own ALL of the equipment they will be providing? Does it comply with any technical requirements for the band or others… When your provider owns the equipment there is more control over availability and pricing. There is also “pride of ownership”that the business owner has taken great care to maintain the gear.
Does the equipment comply with local Safety standards such as the electrical authority? Will you find yourself standing minutes before your event opens, unable to start because your providers equipment did not pass the local inspection(s)… Is your vendor aware of the current regulations surrounding this industry?…
Do they comply with “best safety practices and working standards”? Your vendor should be using cable mats for snakes and electrical cords – and have provided or obtained employee training for any mandated instruction such as working at heights etc.
Does the vendor have liability insurance? Are you opening yourself or your organization to potential liability if you hire someone without it?
Is this your Vendors primary business / focus? I’m sure cost is often a driving factor for an organization wanting to hire “their friends buddy with the DJ equipment”. The outcome of this is often less than desirable results, your event suffers, and possibly fails. “Weekend warriors” is not a good option when seeking professional production. Find a brick and mortar business that pays into local taxes and support them.
Bottom line is if you think hiring a professional production company is expensive…wait until you hire one that isn’t….
Please be mindful of these suggestions when looking for a provider for your future events. BTW – BSS Productions can answer “YES” to all of the above… Happy 2018
